Goals: 2012

This is my working list of several new things I want to try this year. I know this year will have many firsts without my help, but here are a few general ones (a few of these are things I did before I started the blog):
  • Make a fancy cake for my son's 2nd birthday (and by fancy, I mean not one that comes in a 9x13 pan). I am not a creative baker, but I loathe the idea of paying someone else to do something I can do myself.
  • Help coach an Upward basketball team at church. Thanks to a dear friend who volunteered to head coach (or perhaps, was dragged kicking and screaming), I am assistant coaching a kindergarten Upward basketball team at WHBC. Yikes.
  • Watch what I eat. Eventually, when our household has two incomes, we plan to be much more selective in the food we serve in our house. For now, however, we eat what we can afford. I am not planning to diet, per se, but I am planning to seriously watch the amount of food I eat.
  • Get some exercise weekly. I hate to exercise. HATE it. But I know how good it is for me and my family, so I'm going to attempt some basic cardio at least a few times a week.
  • Only buy retail 1) when the situation presents dire need and 2) when bonus money can be used. This isn't exactly new, but it is certainly worth continuing. My husband and I get nearly everything we need used. We do this for many reasons, but the most obvious in our current state of life is saving money. As a result, the only shopping we do is grocery or shopping with what we call "bonus money"--gift cards, extra cash we weren't expecting, etc.
  • Read a non-fiction book. I love to read but I hate hate hate non-fiction. I have an excellent book on child-raising that I want to read cover to cover this year.
My son is up--I can hear him singing to himself in his crib ("Wok chalk KU, woo"). I'll wrap this up for now, but I called it a working list because I plan to add to it. :)
