Book: Dark Places

Dark Places

by Gillian Flynn

Length: 368
Format: Paperback
Price: $.25 at a garage sale
How I heard about it: I read Gone Girl by the same author, so when I saw it was $.25, I thought, why not?

Basic Premise: When her family was killed 25 years ago, Libby Day testified that she watched her brother murder her mother and sisters. Now, as an adult, new evidence is coming to light and she finds herself questioning everything related to the murder, including her own testimony.

My Take: 6.5 out of 10 (scale here)
Ugh. This book is DARK. Which really shouldn't be a surprise considering the title, right? And the author, who seems to have a propensity for the deeply disturbing. A few things I really liked about this book was were the fast-pace and the fact that it was set in my home state. With regard to the latter, however, I question whether the author has spent much time in Kansas, given that somehow Salina, Lawrence, Manhattan, and Topeka all seemed to be within 30 miles of each other. I was not a fan of the protagonist or really any of the characters, but the story line definitely kept me guessing to the very end. I started to tell Husband about the plot since he likes these kinds of stories, but he stopped me and asked if there was a movie, which it turns out, there is. We watched it together as soon as I finished the book.

I liked the movie better.
