Days 1-2: Welcome to Singapore!

Previous post:
Getting There

We arrived at lunchtime on Tuesday (I think? It's really hard to track time when you travel internationally) and went back to Aunt & Uncle's sweet Singaporean crib. They fed us and then we headed out for some brief exploring. We went to their favorite market and saw where they get their groceries, and then we went to the food court where we got tea and coffee from their favorite coffee place. And then we sat and sipped tea and caught up for probably two hours. Since these are two of my favorite people on the planet, I thoroughly enjoyed myself, despite the fact the I hadn't slept in almost 24 hours. We ate dinner at their favorite local Indian place and I had Naan for the first time. It was all delicious!

I slept well that night and the next morning, we headed to the Singapore National Museum.

Did you know that 50 years ago, Singapore was just a fishing village that Malaysia thought wouldn't be worth keeping? They chucked Singapore out, and today it is one of the most prosperous nations on Earth. Bet they're kicking themselves now, those Malaysians!

We took a detour to Orchard Road (the Rodeo Drive of the city) and were s little silly,

But mostly, we learned to navigate the MRT. The MRT is the subway system, and one of the biggest reasons this enormous city doesn't have traffic. Here's the pocket map we kept on us:

It was a little overwhelming at first, but easy to learn, and once I got the hand of it, I really enjoyed it! I especially liked the signs like this that were posted everywhere:
#standupstacy promoted giving your seat to the elderly, #moveovermartin encourages users to be mindful of leaving plenty of space for others - it was a really cool initiative. Aunt said she was frequently given seats by others when the cars were full. Cool!

That night, we stayed up late (almost 9) to FaceTime our kids. To pass the time, we played Farkle, and at their house, you have to wear this hat if you Farkle:

It was great to see the kids, but we were pooped!
