SE Asia 2.0 - Getting There

Written on the plane at...actually, I'm not sure of the day/time. I think it's Monday? Here's what the map screen in front of me says:

Back before we had kids, and right before I started my teaching job (like, the two weeks before), Husband and I traveled to China. Asia was not a continent I had grown up dreaming to visit, but having taken my first overseas adventure to South Africa the year prior, I FELL IN LOVE with international travel and truly loved every second of our Asian experience. Since then, we have added Mexico (twice) and Canada to our list, and Husband added the Philippines a few years ago. Now, we have the unique opportunity to visit Asia again, but this time, we are traveling to Singapore and Indonesia. Husband's aunt and uncle, long time missionaries in the Philippines, changed things up several years ago and moved to Singapore to coordinate disaster relief for Southeast Asia. My cousin moved to Indonesia right after she graduated college (I had just graduated high school) to teach at a Western school there. I think my aunt and uncle thought this would just be a temporary thing, but she fell in love with the country and the locals, and met her husband there, as well. Now they serve in an area of Indonesia from which she can see Singapore from her beach! With Rick's aunt and uncle retiring this fall, and with our debt finally paid off, we simply could not pass up such a great opportunity!

Travel so far has been incredibly smooth. (For us...the cousin we are visiting, Jennie, messaged Saturday to tell us she was stranded at Heathrow in London with about 100,000 other people due to a computer failure...yikes! She did eventually get a flight out, after waiting in a line of 1,000 angry travelers for 10 hours!)  Everything has been on time, landings and takeoffs have been smooth, our luggage was where it was supposed to be, and THANK GOD I SLEPT ON THE PLANE! We departed on our big flight from LAX at 2:15 AM our time, and husband, who is a genius, bought two heavy-duty sleep masks before we left, and it was one of his top ten best ideas ever. I ended up sleeping for about five hours, which I am counting as success! I woke up at one point and the guy next to me was eating, but no one was too loud or bothersome, so I just pulled my mask back on and went back to sleep. Upon waking, I did discover this:

I forgot how much fun it is to read English over here!

According to the screen, we are less than eight hours to our destination, which is Taipei. From there, we will fly to Singapore, where local time will be noon and home time will be midnight. Aunt Pam said she is making dinner, but she's making something she can easily put away and save for later, knowing we are going to be DYING by the time we get there. Our plan is to get there, shower and get settled, maybe go out and see a sight or two, eat dinner (6ish?), and then CRASH. I'll let you know how it actually goes!
