Project: 4th Wreath

We throw a party for the 4th because we have an AWESOME neighborhood that throws an AWESOME parade.  So when I saw this on a friend's Facebook feed:
She found the idea on Pinterest (of course) and I thought two things upon seeing it: 1) it's utterly adorable and 2) it looks like it might be within my skill level.  I made something similar last year and vowed never to do it again because it took FOR-EH-VERRR.  But this looked easier, and since we will have lots of people over for our bash, I thought I'd give it a shot.

Step 1: Gather materials
  • Round Styrofoam wreath, $5.99
  • Blue ribbon, $4.99
  • Red patterned ribbon, $4.99 (They did not have the adorable burlap chevron from above, and they did have red and white stripes, but I liked this pattern better.  It was different and cool.)
  • Straight pins
  • Hot glue
  • White buttons, assorted sizes
Step 2: Wrap the Red
Pin the ribbon the the wreath using two straight pins.  Begin wrapping and continue until you have wrapped 3/4ths of the wreath with the red.
Step 3: Add the Blue
Secure the blue ribbon to the wreath using two straight pins.  Pin the blue over the red and then wrap the red over the top of the blue to cover the pins.

Step 4: Finish the Wrapping
Secure the blue ribbon in the back with two straight pins.  I didn't like how the blue ribbon was angled at 12:00, so after I took this picture I unpinned it and made the ribbon straight up and down.  I liked that much better.

Step 5: Position and Secure Buttons
Glue buttons in an arrangement that suits you.  If I were to do this again, I would use littler buttons.
And there it is!  (Please ignore my husband playing video games from the couch.)  I am pleased with how it turned out!
